The Role

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic technician to join our dynamic and forward thinking science department. The successful applicant will have a good understanding of working in a science based environment; they will need to have practical knowledge and skill in the use, operation and maintenance of scientific equipment with good communication & organisational skills and a flexible working approach.

The role is full time, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday (days/hours to be agreed with the Head of Department).  The role is 38 weeks per annum – term time only; although a flexible working approach is required as the successful applicant may be required to assist in School events such as Open Evening.

The role will be paid on salary scale D Scale D Points 4-5 (£18,933 - £19,312.00) Actual Salary £15,729.39

Key Requirements

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

•Be familiar with science specific Health and Safety requirements and liaise closely with Senior Laboratory Technician in the first instance, and other school staff to ensure safe practices are observed at all times.
•Assembly trays of equipment and chemicals as detailed in assigned requisitions.
•Delivery and collection of trays to designated room.
•Dissembling of trays, cleaning of equipment, re-stocking of chemicals and storing appropriately. Check equipment for wear and tear, report findings to Senior Laboratory Technician and take appropriate advice and actions.
•To notify relevant staff of dysfunctional apparatus, fire safety equipment, fabric of the room.
•To maintain preparation and storage rooms, cupboards, lockers, bench tops and other areas in clean and tidy condition.
•Maintain and dispose of solutions (and waste) in accordance with established guidelines.
•To participate in the annual stocktake, and help ensure that appropriate stock levels are maintained throughout the year.
•To undertake any other duties as appropriate to the nature of the appointment.
