Museums Marketing Officer
Museums Worcestershire is the joint museum service of Worcester City and Worcestershire County Councils. It comprises three fantastic venues – Worcester City Art Gallery & Museum, The Commandery in Worcester and The County Museum at Hartlebury Castle.
The collections and exhibitions at our sites are many and varied, covering centuries of the county's history right up to the present day. Thousands of objects, including the historic buildings themselves, are brought to life through innovative exhibitions and events throughout the year.
Everyone associated with Worcester City Council is proud of Worcester’s offer of a high quality of life, varied heritage, award winning parks and our contribution to the development of modern local government.
It is a fantastic place to work and you will find us to be an organisation that is challenging yet caring; with our leadership adventurous in its pursuit of excellence.
At Worcester City Council, we have a work-family culture and we are proud to support and value the combination of employees’ work and family lives.
We have a clear vision to achieve excellence in everything we do and to achieve excellence in everyone we employ, meaning we are looking for an excellent candidate to come and join our work family!
As Museums Marketing Officer you will promote The Commandery and the County Museum at Hartlebury Castle to new and existing audiences to raise awareness, increase visitor numbers and income. You will also work with partners across the county to maximise Museums Worcestershire’s role in the heritage and tourism environment.
This role is 24.5 hours per week, temporary for two years.
We are looking for a proactive and motivated marketer to grow our museum audiences. You may have already done a marketing apprenticeship or be ready to move on from your first marketing position and will have experience of delivering marketing campaigns within the heritage, culture or visitor attraction sector. You will have a positive, audience-focussed approach and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Skills and experience
Ideally you will have or be working towards a CIM (Chartered Institute of Marketing) qualification. You will have experience of implementing effective marketing campaigns, and of coordinating and producing print from copywriting and design commission to finished proofs with an excellent eye for detail. A working knowledge of CRM systems would be helpful.
You will have great ideas on how to sell the museums, events and exhibitions to new audiences and be willing to share your enthusiasm for heritage and history to encourage others to participate.
This role requires you to work occasional weekends and evenings and most spring and summer Bank Holidays, as well as providing out-of-hours support in an emergency.
You will be based at The Commandery (Worcester) and Hartlebury Castle (near Kidderminster) and may need to move between sites at short notice, therefore being a car owner and holding a driving licence is an advantage although not essential.
