Job Details

We are seeking an experienced developer to join our Modelling and Forecasting Team as an Analyst. Working within the Productivity & Skills Directorate and reporting to our Senior Modelling and Forecasting Analyst, you will assist in the development and support of data interfaces to our key business systems within the Adult Education Budget Team. 

What will you be doing?

  • Design, build, test and implement processes in SQL Data Services
  • Backup and restore all systems and databases as scheduled
  • Design, build and maintain a suite of business-critical reports
  • Develop the unified data model (Operational Data Store) and the interfaces with other key systems
  • Design, build, maintain and test Java JSF web services and Web interfaces
  • Work with business stakeholders and the Senior Modelling and Forecasting Analyst to understand data integration requirements
  • Troubleshoot and systems enhancement

About you

Ambitious, passionate about data, with an eye for detail and an analytical mind, you will have the experience needed to collect data, create data sets and produce reports. What we need includes:

  • Degree in computing or other equivalent formal training, or relevant experience in an equivalent role
  • Java programming knowledge ( JSF )
  • Data modelling and Systems Analysis
  • Excellent analytical ‘data centric’ problem-solving skills
  • Strong customer relationship and communication skills
  • Relational database management systems (e.g. MS SQL Server or MySQL)
  • Experience of working with a variety of data formats (e.g. CSV; XML)

Ideally, you will understand how education works and have some prior experience of working in higher or further education. What we'd like, but isn't essential, includes:

  • An understanding of what RESTful web services are
  • ANSI standard SQL
  • Knowledge of Data Warehousing principles (e.g. change-data capture)
  • Knowledge of the UK FE sector organisation environment and associated sector challenges
