As Assistant Recruitment Partner you will join the team on a 12-month fixed term basis and will support the delivery of an agile, professional, timely and cost-effective recruitment solution that supports the West Midlands Combined Authority in meeting its objectives.

This is a new role within a new team and whilst your day to day will be centred around working with managers and leaders in our Transport for West Midlands and Digital & Data directorates to understand key recruitment requirements, developing attraction strategies and filling vacancies, the rest of your time will be spent working with the Recruitment Partner, Head of HR and HR Business Partners to shape and deliver a resourcing strategy that transforms how we attract, engage, recruit and onboard the people we need. This role will play a key part in helping us be the best that we can be.

What will you be doing?

  • Source really great candidates and manage the candidate experience throughout the recruitment process
  • Work with hiring managers to understand the resourcing requirements for the business, now and future
  • Utilise LinkedIn Recruiter to actively source candidates, demonstrating ROI
  • Screen and shortlist candidates and support your manager community with the interview and hiring process
  • Coordinate and arrange interviews with candidates and hiring managers
  • Update ATS in real time to maintain accurate MI data
  • Ask the difficult questions, challenge everything and constantly want to do better

Who we need

We’re looking for someone who has experience of managing recruitment campaigns across a diverse range of roles to include drafting engaging job adverts, shortlisting, competency-based interviewing and candidate management. Confident and comfortable working at pace, you’ll be someone who thinks and acts cross-functionally, beyond HR professional areas, to understand the wider picture and the implications of short-term decisions and, more importantly, someone who comes with lots of great ideas around change and how we can improve.

We use Talentlink as our ATS with no immediate plans to change. Whilst it would be significantly advantageous if you have experience of this system, what’s equally important is that you are used to working with technology and automated workflows, and you’re someone who is constantly looking for better ways of doing things. Your success won’t be measured on recruiting directly. Of course, this is important but what is more important is how effectively you take a job to market, and how you meet the needs of the organisation and candidates.

About the team

Our Finance & Business Hub provides essential high-quality, responsive, and agile enabling services to the West Midlands Combined Authority and its directorates in areas such as human resources, procurement, commercial investments, assurance and appraisal, financial control and administration, and financial and business planning and performance reporting.

We are a cohesive team of forward thinking, insightful, innovative and high-performing professionals who, through our consultative and business partnering approach, influence, support and coach managers and senior leaders to help them achieve business objectives. By doing so, we help to ensure sound decisions are made and it is in this capacity that we are seen as a respected point of contact within the organisation.

If your values align with ours and you’re committed to working towards creating a future we can all be proud of, we want to hear from you.

Additional information

We are designing our organisation of the future and planning a new, flexible approach to the way we use our office space.  This approach will mean most of us working from home some of the time and using our office space to come together to share ideas and learn from each other. We will continue to use digital technology for meetings, collaboration and communications - bringing teams together virtually wherever they’re working, saving time and spending on travel.

We are committed to developing an organisation that is representative of the diverse communities that we serve and welcome applications from all sections of the community. The following groups are currently underrepresented: young people, Black, Asian and ethnic minority groups and women at senior levels.

We are a Disability Confident Employer and offer a guaranteed interview scheme for applicants who meet the essential job role criteria. We will make reasonable adjustments, in line with the Equality Act, for disabled applicants if these are needed. Wherever possible we will offer flexible working options which assist work-life balance.

We’re dedicated to providing a broad range of rewards and benefits and constantly benchmark our benefits packages to ensure they are attractive for all our people. As well as a competitive salary, employees also receive 27 days annual leave (plus bank holidays) and access to a great pension scheme.
