The Role

We are a busy, friendly, well supported legal team serving Worcestershire County in a beautiful and conveniently situated location in Worcester. We provide a high quality and well regarded service to our users and now need to recruit two solicitors or barristers to cover maternity leave on a fixed term contract for up to 1 year.

The first post is for a full-time Adult Social Care solicitor. The work will cover a wide and varied caseload of adult social care law to include ordinary resident disputes, mental capacity including DOLS, mental health and the Care Act 2014. In addition, experience of education law and employment law and practise would be advantageous although not essential as the primary focus will be on adult social care work. You will be responsible for advising on all aspects of adult Social Services law to include representing the Council in the Court of Protection and County Court. A flair for advocacy is therefore desirable.

The second post is for a part-time (15 hours) employment law solicitor. You will be advising all directorates on Human Resources related issues to include advising on dismissals, grievances, discrimination claims, TUPE transfers, terms and conditions and HR policies.  You will also carry a small caseload of employment law matters and will be required to represent the Council in the Employment Tribunal. As a member of the commercial team, you will be required to provide advice and assistance, when required, on commercial law matter which may include some more general civil litigation, advice on contractual disputes etc.

We are looking for solicitors or barristers, with relevant experience in local government. However, the job will also be suitable for a newly qualified or soon to be qualified solicitor or barrister.

We are all currently working from home remotely due to the Coronavirus pandemic, but as our buildings open-up, you may be required to attend the office, court of other meetings in person on occasion as and when required.

We offer a generous benefits package, which includes flexi-time scheme, Local Government pension scheme, child care vouchers and a relocation scheme in appropriate cases, as well as edge-of-the-city location, very close to the M5.
