This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive and successful in-house Commercial Property legal team. The team provides advice and support to the Council with a proactive and solution-focused approach.

The Commercial Property team deal with a broad and diverse areas of law that includes property, school academy conversions, traffic regulation orders, planning law, land charges and compulsory purchases. It has been at the heart of a number of large and high value transactions across the city. These include the transformation of the train station, city learning quarter, i54, statutory school transfers, traffic calming measures and supporting the planning approval process amongst many other matters.

A number of vacancies have arisen within the Commercial Property team. The team is looking to recruit an experienced property lawyer - either Cilex qualified, a solicitor or a barrister to handle an interesting and varied caseload of land and property matters.

 

The successful candidate will undertake a range of property transactions of both a complex and routine nature including sales, purchases, leases, easements, licences, highways agreements and reports on title. In particular, the role requires the provision of advice and representation to the Council’s wholly owned housing development company, including attendance at company board. You will be required to undertake all preparatory work necessary to allow plot sales to proceed including the provision of advice to project managers, architects and other stakeholders in relation to estate layouts, obtaining all relevant Land Registry approvals and the drafting of bespoke precedent documents for use in plot sales and development agreements.

You will also provide ad-hoc advice on a range of land and property matters including shared ownership, help to buy, private sector leasing, right to buy, deferred payments and other miscellaneous matters.

Ideally you will have strong experience in residential property matters. An awareness or experience of areas covered by the Commercial Property team is desirable. You will be motivated, enthusiastic, and keen to provide a good standard of legal advice and support to the Council. Experience in Local Government is advantageous, although not essential as training is available and individuals with experience obtained in other sectors are welcome to apply.

Qualified Cilex lawyer, solicitor or Barrister and experience in local government is an advantage
