Arc Oakbridge School is seeking to appoint a Higher Level Teaching Assistant.

Arc Oakbridge School is specifically designed to be a low arousal, calm and nurturing environment in which young people with autism can learn and grow. Our students all have a diagnosis of autism; are all verbal and, also have additional and complex needs, therefore experience in this area is essential. Due to the model of curriculum both primary and secondary specialist applications are welcome.

Duties include:

  • Attend relevant meetings and under the overall direction and guidance of the Deputy Headteacher, contribute to the short, medium and long term planning and preparation of lessons where required.

 

 

  • Prepare and deliver lessons where required, under the direction of the SENCO/Deputy Headteacher.
  • Planning and delivery of specific interventions for groups of pupils and individuals e.g. reading/phonics.
  • Monitoring, evaluating and providing teachers with feedback on pupils’ participation and progress.
  • Contributing to the maintenance of pupil records, including reports and assessments.
  • Supporting pupils to make progress in a range of classroom settings, including working with individuals, small groups and whole classes where the assigned teacher is not present by delivering clearly structured, interesting teaching and learning activities.
  • Support teachers in selecting and preparing teaching resources that meet the pupils’ needs and interests.  Regular liaison with the teachers to devise complementary learning activities.
  • Develop and prepare resources for learning activities in accordance with lesson plans and in response to pupil need.
  • Promote and support the inclusion of all pupils, including those with specific needs, both in learning activities and within the classroom.
  • Supervising and mentoring of Teaching Assistants where assigned.

 

 

  • Use behaviour management strategies, in line with the school’s policy and procedures, to contribute to a purposeful learning environment and encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others.
  • Contribute to programmes of observation and assessment as planned by the teacher and provide reports, evaluations and other information to assist in the provision of appropriate support for specific pupils.

 

 

  • Attending and contributing to annual review meetings with parents/carers and other professionals in order to support the monitoring and development of the pupil where appropriate.
