We are seeking an ICT Technical Specialist who will support Solihull MBC’s ICT Infrastructure, this includes hardware within our on-premise data centre, Virtual Server estates and the growth of cloud services.

You will be joining Solihull MBC at a very challenging but exciting time as we embark on delivering our Digital Transformation Programme of which includes Office 365, Oracle E-Business migration and Smarter Ways Of Working initiative.  With all this going on, and as ever, it is essential that we keep our ICT running at the highest efficiency, while making sure services are kept highly available, secure, and sustainable for the future.

This is a significant role within the ICT Infrastructure team; you will work with key stakeholders and colleagues across the organisation to ensure that all Solihull ICT services are well supported and under-pinned by a solid ICT Infrastructure.  The physical server estate is HP BL and DL servers, these either host specific applications, or hypervisor hosts.  The hypervisors predominately run Hyper-V, alongside VMWare, Oracle VM, and XenServer.  The servers are mostly Microsoft Windows running within Active-Directory, we also support Oracle Linux for our Oracle DBs and Applications.  Dell EMC Unity makes up for most of our tier 1 and 2 storage fabric, with several NexSAN NAS devices for lower tier requirements.

To be successful in the role you will be a proactive and hands-on specialist; a team player who will work collaboratively and use your technical expertise, previous experience and detailed understanding of ICT Infrastructure to deliver key projects, coupled with good interpersonal and technical ICT problem solving skills.

In return, working for Solihull offers you the opportunity to develop your professional skills and experience with the challenge and variety that supporting public services provides.  We can also offer employees an inclusive and supportive team environment, together with a range of flexible and agile working options, attractive staff discounts and a career average pension scheme.
