Job Description

As Director of Resilience and Recovery you will provide strategic leadership to the Directorate as a whole.  You will build relationships across MHCLG, Government and with local partners, playing a part in the HMG resilience community.

The Director has direct responsibility for three divisions who between them: lead relationships with Local Resilience Forums as they prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies and incidents; develop our local situational awareness, building on a new data and digital capability created during the pandemic; develop strategy and policy on strengthening local resilience and recovery, as part of a whole society approach.

The Directorate and its teams have gone through considerable change over the last 18 months as we built capability and innovative approaches through the pandemic.  A real strength of the Directorate is the way in which teams work collaboratively and in an agile way to deliver outcomes.  There is an opportunity for the Director to build on this, setting clear direction for the Directorate and shaping local resilience in the period ahead.

Leaders in MHCLG are also expected to role model our principles and values which complement the wider Civil Service Leadership Statement; you can see these within the candidate pack.

We have opportunities across our many professions that cater to everyone– whether you are new to the Civil Service or an existing Civil Servant looking for a change, and whether you're just starting out, or an experienced professional, we want to hear from you.

The last 12 months have been an extraordinary time for people and communities across the country. DLUHC has played an instrumental role in the Government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic: by taking steps to protect thousands of rough sleepers; in shielding the most vulnerable in society; introducing a series of emergency measures to support people, places and sectors; and more. We have also made significant progress in delivering programmes for Government, such as driving forward planning reforms, and pressing ahead with our mission to deliver the homes the country needs.

Now, we’re looking to the future and the work we need to do to continue making a difference to the lives of people across the UK. We need to continue building and developing our workforce so that we can effectively deliver our priorities, which include:
• Supporting communities to respond and recover from COVID-19
• Getting more people onto the housing ladder and building safer, greener and more beautiful homes
• Delivering our mission to level up all parts of the country
• Bringing about the biggest change in building safety for a generation
• Ending rough sleeping
