Tamworth Borough Council is an organisation which has a one team approach to the delivery of its services. The Planning Services team is an integral part of the organisation ensuring that residents and businesses have the opportunities to locate, develop or grow.

Tamworth itself is a large market town located in the south east corner of Staffordshire. The town has an identity of its own which sets it apart from other Staffordshire towns and also from the Birmingham conurbation, which is on the doorstep.

With a population of approximately 77,000, the town centre is the hub and focal point for the town with a range of restaurants, pubs and bars and other activities such as Tamworth Castle. The local economy is strong and vibrant with a diverse range of businesses including manufacturing, office, logistics and retail, many of which are dovetailed with residential areas, both old and new.

Our small Planning Services team covers Planning Policy, Development Management and Planning Enforcement. With an adopted Local Plan the Borough has seen considerable planning delivery over recent years. The rate of change is not slowing down as the Planning Services team is also closely involved with a number of high profile regeneration schemes including the successful award of £21.65 million through the future high streets fund. The Borough Council has an exciting and diverse range of town centre projects to deliver over the next three years requiring significant contributions from the planning team.

You will have significant experience of Development Management and a flair for improving services and the ability to manage change. To be successful in the role, you will need to have strong leadership abilities and management capability. You will use your negotiation and excellent communication skills to forge strong partnerships and work collaboratively with stakeholders, colleagues and Members. This role will suit an ambitious qualified individual who wants to take the next step in their career.

The Borough Council are committed to delivering services which continuously improve and evolve to meet the expectations of our residents, businesses and visitors. This is a great opportunity to work for an authority that isn’t afraid to challenge itself and strive to do better.

The authority offers an excellent employment package with flexible working, a non-contributory health scheme, Local Government pension scheme and generous holiday entitlement.

Appointment will be subject to satisfactory references, right to work in the UK check and medical clearance.

For an informal discussion about either role please contact Anna Miller, Assistant Director - Growth and Regeneration on 07891 285617.
