Customer Services is one of the largest departments in Coventry City Council and are the front face of the organisation.  We are usually the first port of call for customer enquiries across the council.  Our fast-paced telephone teams deal with thousands of calls and emails a week, we have a dynamic Customer Service Centre with around 2500 visitors a week approaching us for a wide range of enquiries from paying their council tax to seeking help to access services and dedicated support teams who process bookings, timesheets and general administration work for the whole organisation.

You may be based in one of several locations, we have a Customer Service Centre right in the heart of the city; Friargate – a large purpose built office by the train station along with several reception points across the city.

Joining Customer Services is a really good stepping stone into a long term career with the Council, depending on the role you are offered you will learn about other parts of the organisation

What is the job role?

This is an exciting opportunity to gain excellent skills, experience and a Customer Service Level 3 qualification as part of Coventry City Council’s Customer Services team. 

Customer Services is a big service with several different teams, we have opportunities with our Customer Service Call Centre, Blue Badge Team, Customer Experience, Assurance and Community Support Teams.

Apprenticeship summary

The successful candidates will have an opportunity to support Customer Services teams, under the supervision of a Team Manager, to provide Customer Service and general administrative support as required

While you are with us you will gain skills in the following:

  • Working in a service environment
  • Using spoken and written communication skills to answer face to face or telephone enquiries
  • Working quickly but also paying attention to detail
  • Working cooperatively as part of a team
  • Handling information securely and confidentially
  • Using computerised systems and database packages

We are running a series of virtual drop in-sessions on Microsoft Teams for the next three weeks that will be attended by Customer Services and the Apprenticeship Team.  You can drop into these sessions to ask any questions or just for some more information.   We would love to see you and be happy to help.

  1. Thursday 22nd July, 2pm – 3pm

  1. Tuesday 27th July, 11am – 12noon

Closing date is midnight on 1st August 2021.

The application and selection process for candidate is as follows:

Stage 1 (2nd August) – Candidates will be shortlisted based on the answers given

Stage 2 (10th August) – Pre-interview and Maths and English assessment.

Stage 3 (12th August) -  Final interview and work-related role play.
