About Us and the Role

Warwickshire County Council is offering an exciting opportunity to join their Portfolio Management Office as a Systems & Project Co-Ordinator Apprentice. The apprenticeship is a great opportunity to work with experienced Project members and to earn a salary, whilst working towards a qualification and gaining a firm understanding of how projects are managed within local government.  The apprenticeship gives you hands on work experience, supplemented with a recognised study programme.

Working as part of a team including Programme and Project Managers, Business Analysts and Project Support Officers will enable you to develop organisational, managerial and communication skills through a variety of projects. Our projects range from small software implementations to widescale reviews of Council functions

The role covers a diverse range of activities to support the delivery of the project’s objectives and ensure the projects follow the correct approval pathway.   As an Apprentice you will be assisting other members of the project team in the delivery of projects. 

The apprenticeship

Business Administration Level 3. The study component of the course runs for 12 to 18 months.  During this time you will be required to spend a minimum of 20% of your employment hours in off the job training.   You will be managed and supported throughout the training and assessment programme.

The apprenticeship will give you a foundation for pursuing a career within a Project Management Office.  The typical career progression for a Project Support Apprentice within WCC would be:

  • Project Support Officer
  • Project Co-Ordinator / Lead

An experienced Project Co-Ordinator has the skills to follow a career path as a project manager or business analyst

You must have

To be considered for this post you will need to have good standard of general education and excellent IT skills including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database entry and reporting. You will also need excellent written and oral communications skills, with ability to be trained to create reports and presentations to a high standard with strong attention to detail.

  • Five GCSE grades C - A* (4-9) or equivalent, including English and Maths

 

Skills needed

  • Good organisational and planning skills
  • Someone who can communicate and build effective relationships
  • The ability to follow instructions
  • Skilled in the use of multiple IT packages and systems in order to write reports and emails, create presentations, record and analyse data
  • Flexible and has an ability to multitask
  • Be happy to work in a team as well as individually.
