The Violence Reduction Unit is an alliance of organisations working together to reduce violence within the West Midlands. We are seeking a Community Navigator to come and join the Unit, hosted by the Police and Crime Commissioner. This role is a fixed term contract ending 31 March 2022.

Do you have experience of working in and around the criminal justice system, and are you passionate about violence reduction and prevention?  Have you worked with communities in either the statutory or voluntary sector, and can you demonstrate your awareness of place based approaches and the public health approach to preventing and reducing violence? You will be skilled at developing long-lasting and effective strategic partnerships, and have an excellent knowledge of the place you work in, and an understanding of the systems and providers operating in that space. You will be able to demonstrate experience and success in problem solving, and transparency and accountability in the way you operate.

You need to be able to work independently, whilst also being an excellent team player. You will be required to work as part of a local and a regional team, and in a range of multi-agency settings. You must be able to work well with a range of professionals, building authentic and effective relationships in order to respond to the WM Violence Reduction Unit Strategic Needs Assessment and the broader VRU priorities. You will be expected to attend a range of multi-agency forums and meetings, and be confident in presenting information verbally in those settings, as well as through the production of high quality written reports.

The West Midlands is a vibrant and diverse part of the country and the VRU is committed to equality and diversity and welcomes applications from individuals of all backgrounds. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a good understanding of diversity and human rights, and a personal commitment to promoting diversity and racial equality.  This role is politically restricted.
