The award-winning City of Wolverhampton Council is seeking an enthusiastic Exhibitions Assistant to join our dynamic and hardworking Arts and Culture team. This permanent position is an ideal opportunity for an individual who is looking to advance their career and join a thriving and supportive organisation. There's never been a better time to join award winning City of Wolverhampton Council when we are at an exciting stage of transformation for the organisation and the city. We offer a wide range of benefits including competitive salaries, generous annual leave entitlement, excellent pension scheme amongst many more.
As Exhibitions Assistant you will be a key member of our curatorial team working across Wolverhampton's cultural venues: Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Bilson Gallery, Bantock House and the City Archives. You will support the team to plan, promote and deliver an exciting variety of in-house and touring exhibitions, specifically programmed as part of our Arts Council NPO funded programme. This will include British Art Show 9, which opens in Wolverhampton in January 2022, as well as projects linked to the Birmingham Commonwealth Games cultural programme.

As part of the curatorial team, you will play an instrumental role in helping to shape ideas for the exhibitions and events programme and external funding proposals. You will liaise with artists and makers, external curators, lenders and stakeholders, and develop partnerships with relevant organisations. You will work with corporate communications staff and external contacts to promote and plan effective publicity for the programme, particularly contributing to our social media and online activity. You will also oversee the work of casual staff and volunteers where appropriate.
The successful applicant will be educated to graduate level, with a degree in a relevant subject. Ideally, you will have worked in a museum or gallery setting in either a paid or voluntary capacity and have experience of curating and coordinating exhibitions.

You will be highly organized with good project monitoring and reporting skills. You will also have excellent research abilities, using primary and secondary sources. Outstanding written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are also essential.

You will have a knowledge of the arts and museums sector and its audiences, and a real commitment to contributing to the cultural life of Wolverhampton.
We particularly welcome applications from people from diverse backgrounds. The City of Wolverhampton Council is committed to Equalities and Diversity in the workplace.
