AIM for GOLD Business Development Officer (2 posts)

Full time Fixed Term Contract to end March 2023 Grade 7

The City of Wolverhampton Council is seeking two experienced Business Development Officers to join our award winning Business Development Team. This is an exciting opportunity to support and help shape delivery of our service, and to directly deliver our two key business support programmes. The Relight Business Programme provides support to sole traders, micro, and small businesses looking to build resilience and return to growth; whilst the AIM for GOLD Programme provides growth planning and grant support to larger businesses looking to expand and invest.

 

Reporting to the Business Development Manager the post will take a lead on account management for a cohort of businesses across a number of key sectors, to • Carry out business diagnostics to secure baseline data and to identify key challenges and opportunities • Assess the growth potential and needs of established businesses, diagnose opportunities for growth and agree action plans to achieve them. • Provide support through coaching, business planning, helping build resilience, and growth plan support, • Directly support businesses with grant applications for revenue and capital investment, ensuring this meets the eligibility and compliance criteria of the project. • Identify relevant opportunities for product or service development, for accessing new markets, and for securing for new investment

 

The Business Development Team is responsible for both direct delivery and for facilitating partner support to encourage business growth across the City. The Business Development Officer role is key to this delivery, to effective partner relationships, and to building data and intelligence on those businesses we work with. The role would suit someone who is methodical, empathetic but also willing to challenge, is as comfortable working in a team as on their own initiative, and key attributes should include:

• Experience of providing advice and diagnostic services to businesses to support their growth and development

• Experience of working and delivering to performance targets

• Strong relationship skills, able to build a positive rapport with a company, and with stakeholders

• Experience of the compliance requirements of externally funded programmes such as ERDF or ESF

• Awareness of the key barriers to business growth and potential solutions

• Strong advisory skills with an ability to diagnose business challenges, identify and explore new opportunities, and articulate practical support and solutions

 

This post is offered on a fixed term contract until end March 2023 This role is open to job share applicants and will at least initially be a home-based role.
