Job Details

The post holder will therefore work across the West Midlands region to facilitate this, developing

particular expertise in the management of research in social care and public health settings. We seek to ensure social care and public health providers are engaged in research, have access to support the delivery of research within their organisations and aspire to developing health and care researchers of the future.

This postholder will work within a matrix management structure, for example working with the Study Support Service team, Social Care and Public Health Research Leads, Workforce Development and Learning Team, and delivery support teams to achieve the overall aims.  They will work closely with external organisations and key personnel such as within the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) and Association of Directors for Public Health (ADPH), as well as with other social care organisations.

Scope

Staff & Resource Management

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of capacity and capability building projects, as well as developing and maintaining effective relationships with health and care researchers. Working with the Study Support Service and Delivery Support Team, the postholder will ensure the health and care CRN studies are delivered efficiently and we achieve local and national objectives regarding increasing the amount of research opportunities in the region. The CRN WM operations consist of a number of diverse work-streams/services and it is the responsibility of the Assistant Research Delivery Manager to have oversight of their delivery and implementation. S/he will build their expertise in the specific service area they are responsible for, so they are able to advise the wider Network staff, the research community on appropriate services to setup studies within and for efficient delivery.

Policy

The post holder will be responsible for interpreting national guidelines for local implementation, as well as overseeing the team’s implementation and adherence to standard operating procedures. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the development of local procedures that are still in consultation and feedback on those that have been recently implemented in order to improve for local delivery.

S/he will maintain working knowledge of current health and care policy agendas and care pathways.

Communications

The post holder will be responsible for development of effective working relations with all relevant health and care services within their area of service delivery responsibility. This will include communicating highly contentious information e.g. unsuccessful strategic funding bids, performance information or issues that have to be escalated.

For the specified area of service delivery this post has the following responsibilities::

  • To ensure the CRN West Midlands teams are providing a quality, efficient and effective service to researchers and research participants, health and care providers and other stakeholders within the area of service delivery responsibility.
  • Translate national priorities and initiatives into local practices. Actively lead and/or participate in these initiatives to ensure timely delivery of outputs. To contribute and lead on national initiatives where relevant and appropriate.
  • Identify and implement local priorities and initiatives required to meet the needs of the West Midlands population to ensure the successful delivery of the high level and specialty specific national objectives. Actively lead and/or participate in these initiatives to ensure timely delivery of outputs.
  • Proactively oversee performance management of portfolio studies and manage escalated issues as well as escalate to others as appropriate to minimise and manage risk to CRN West Midlands.
  • To ensure the CRN West Midlands works as a region to achieve locally set targets, supporting the health and care providers to achieve these by facilitating access to resources, helping overcome barriers and increasing research opportunities for the West Midlands.
  • Work with a number of care providers to act as a Link Senior Manager to enhance the Senior Management Team’s understanding of research delivery in care providers and enhance communications and relationships between these organisations and the CRN.
  • Workforce management, planning and development of the divisional team.
  • Budgetary management and accountability on behalf of CRN WM.
  • Working effectively across CRN West Midlands departments to contribute to the delivery of CRN West Midlands annual plan (such as study support service, workforce development, patient and public involvement and engagement, business intelligence and project management and delivery, including quality improvement).
