Hours: Full time 37 hours per week
Salary: HC08 £29,577 - £33,782 plus a £4000 per annum, pro rata, market forces supplement payable until March 2022

Home First is seeking a qualified individual who specialises in single handed care and moving and handling assessment.

Home First is a Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulated service provided by Herefordshire Council. The service is for anyone over the age of 18 who is eligible for social care support and who would benefit from a period of Reablement.

Single handed care has proven benefits to the individual as well as to the local authority. Single handed care leads to better outcomes for the individuals we support providing them with greater choice and control, positive feelings around health and wellbeing as well as a greater sense of dignity. Single handed care is pivotal to support the Reablement ethos of the service.

The main aspect of this role will to complete single handed care and moving and handling assessments in an individual’s home environment – assessment would typically include consideration of the person’s needs, their environment, and equipment as well the skills and competencies of the Reablement Workers.

This role would be responsible for:

- Ordering single handed care and moving and handling equipment
- Providing advice and guidance to clients/families/carers and staff around single handed care and moving and handling principles and techniques.
- Being able to identify when single handed care is not appropriate and ensuring that the right level of support is always provided to maintain individual safety.
- Completing person centred moving and handling assessments with the client at the heart of decision, exercises choice and control at all times
- Complete risk assessment and moving and handling plans to suit individual and ensures choice and control for the individuals.
- Be able to competency check the skills of Reablement workers and advise on best practice.
- Demonstrating moving and handling/single handed care techniques to clients/families/carers and staff
- Monitoring and reviewing moving and handling/ single handed assessment plans
- Advising management around single handed care and Moving and handling principles to ensure that the service has the correct measures in place

Requirements

Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy and current Occupational Therapy registration with HCPC.

You must have training and up to date competencies around moving and handling and single handed care.

You must have excellent knowledge and awareness of relevant legislation that links to the role.

This would be a new role within the service, therefore the post holder would have the opportunity to shape this and be involved in service development to enhance safe working practices.
