Why join our team?
In Staffordshire we want residents to live their lives to their full potential and this includes people who are living with a disability. We want people with disabilities to be independent and equal in society and have choice and control in their own lives. We want people to have dignity and self-respect and for those with more complex needs to have the support they need to maintain this. And that’s what gives this role a real purpose because you’d be making such a positive impact on people’s lives.
The role
It’s rare that this type of role becomes available so it’s an exciting opportunity to be part of a high performing and citizen-focused Adult Learning Disability Team (ALDT) within our Health and Social Care Directorate.
We’ve recently delivered a restructure of Staffordshire’s Social Care offer to its citizens and this has landed really positively. The aim of this role is to support Social Workers and Social Care Practitioners to deliver the statutory care and support offer of the council. In addition, you’ll also be responsible for managing the day-to-day functions of the services ‘Assessment and Care Management’ teams, in the Young Adults Team. These teams support adults (18+) with a learning disability and autism who as defined by the Care Cat 2014 - need support from adult social care. The team is part of the wider Adult Learning Disability Services within the council and working with our Childrens services teams they support in preparing our young people for adulthood from the age of 14.
What you’ll need
Most of all you’ll need to be enthusiastic about improving the lives of young adults. You’ll be flexible to the needs of the role and have a proven track record of a person centred and asset focused outlook. You’ll have:
- A recognised qualification in Social Work along with Social Work England registration?
- Knowledge and experience of current legislation and its application to practice in a social care setting
- An applied knowledge of The Care Act and The Mental Capacity Act
- Experience of completing safeguarding enquiries is essential, alongside experience of working in complex situations using professional judgement and a range of interventions
- You’ll be a people person, able to communicate in a clear, jargon-free way and in a courteous, calm and professional manner.
- You’ll also have experience of, and be able to provide, professional, reflective supervision, guidance and advice to less experienced social workers, including those completing ASYE and social work students.
Our offer to you
In return for your skills, enthusiasm, and commitment we’ll support you to take your career to the next level.
We offer a competitive salary, opportunities for progression and excellent training linked to your role and professional development plans.
You’ll receive professional supervision and be working in a team of high performing, dedicated and supportive colleagues who’ll ensure you settle in.
