Arc Oakbridge School is seeking to appoint a Teaching Assistant with ASC experience.

Kedleston Group Ltd is an independent provider of SEMH day and residential schools as well as children’s homes across England. Our dedicated autism (ASC) schools work with young people who are high functioning and have associated needs such as mental health problems, attention deficit hyperactive disorder and learning difficulties. Arc Oakbridge School, located in Birmingham is specifically designed to be a low arousal, calm and nurturing environment. Our students all have a diagnosis of autism; are all verbal and, also have additional and complex needs, therefore experience in this area is essential. Due to the model of curriculum both primary and secondary specialist applications are welcome.

Main Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Working in classrooms with individuals / groups of pupils under the direct supervision of a Teacher.
  • Assisting the Teacher in preparing and delivering lessons.
  • Assisting in the production of a stimulating learning environment in the classrooms and other areas of the School.
  • Assisting with educational visits and trips.
  • Ensuring resources are used properly and safely and that they are stored in appropriate ways.
  • Reporting faults and repairs required as necessary.
  • Providing and assisting in a programme of activities.
  • Providing levels of care and support appropriate to the general needs of the children and those as outlined in their Statements of Special Educational Needs and their Care Plans.
  • Maintaining good order and discipline among the children through following Arc Oakbridge School’s Management of Behaviour Policy’ and safeguarding their health and safety.
  • Establishing appropriate professional relationships with the children.
  • Displaying levels of personal behaviour which will provide an appropriate model for the children.
  • Participating in the supervision of the children at break and lunch times in line with the School rota.
  • Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and reviews relating to individual children or groups of children.
